What’s Your Marketing Attitude?

By C.J. Hayden Entrepreneurs pay a lot of attention to the mechanics of marketing. They take workshops, read books, and hire consultants to find out how to do the best job they possibly can. With my own clients, I often discover that their knowledge of marketing techniques is quite good already. What they might lack is the right kind of marketing attitude. Do any of the attitudes described below sound familiar? If so, you may be sabotaging your own marketing efforts. Read on for some possible solutions. 1. “I shouldn’t have to market.” If you are good enough at what you do, you tell yourself, clients should just come to you. Marketing is for products, not professionals. You have years of training and experience in your specialty, why should you have to spend your precious time on marketing? This perception is extremely common among consultants and professionals, although many won’t admit it. The fact is that successful marketing is a necessary part of business ownership. If you could get all the paying work you wanted without having to market, why wouldn’t everyone be self-employed? If you perceive marketing as a dirty business, try thinking of it as the diapers you need to change in order to have the joys of being a parent. But instead of focusing on what you dislike, tie your marketing chores to your vision of a successful business. Visualize checks arriving in the mail when it’s time to make a cold call, or picture a signed contract when preparing for a presentation. Post visual reminders (e.g. photos or clippings) at your desk of the reasons you became self-employed in the first place. Parents don’t remember all the diapers when they’re looking at the baby photos. 2. “I don’t have time for marketing.” There are only two situations where this can really be true: you’re too busy doing the client work you already have, or you have other important responsibilities (e.g. an outside job or young children) taking up your time. It’s easy to believe that doing client work already contracted for is more important than marketing, especially when deadlines are tight. But if you always follow this policy, you will be locked into a feast or famine cycle, with no new clients waiting for you when the work is finished. Whether your responsibilities preventing you from marketing are within the business or outside it, you need to allocate a minimum amount of time each week, no matter what. Even two hours per week can make a significant difference, if you consistently use that time for marketing. Imagine that you have overslept, and are late for an appointment. You might skip breakfast, but would you leave the house without brushing your teeth? Of course not. If you are going to be successful in business, that’s how automatic marketing needs to become for you. 3. “My marketing isn’t working.” It’s true that there may be something wrong with your marketing. Perhaps your message is unclear or the tactics you’re using are inappropriate for the audience. I find, though, that for the majority of business owners who say this, the real problem is not that their marketing isn’t working but that they aren’t working their marketing. Let’s say your business needs two new clients a month, on average. If, in your experience, you must make a detailed presentation, proposal, or initial consultation to three potential clients for one to say yes, you will need to make six of these presentations per month. Now how many prospects do you need to have contact with for one to be interested in a presentation? Ten, maybe? That means you need to make contact with 60 prospects each month to land your two new clients. If you do this math for yourself, you may quickly find that the only thing wrong with your marketing is that there hasn’t been enough of it. Author: C.J. Healthy and Fast Weight Loss: Ephedra - Why the FDA Couldn’t Keep Their Ban On It?

By Matthew Kramer Why was the FDA trying to hide the facts about Ephedra from YOU? In April 2004 the FDA removed ephedra from the market claiming that it was responsible for dozens of deaths. The legal battle between the FDA and health officials began when the health officials became unhappy with the FDAs decision to ban ephedra. The FDA had not taken proper action in declaring the ban on Ephedra based products. There reasoning for the ban was that there were too many problems occurring, some of which led to deaths. Ephedra was considered to be a drug that was too risky. The FDA claims that the negatives outweighed the positive aspects of the drug. Although this didnt seem to be the case until a baseball player had died sometime after taking an Ephedra based product to increase his performance. The FDA didnt recognize that the baseball player had miss used the herb. Just like the others who had serious problems with the use of Ephedra; they were the same ones who abused the drug thinking they could increase the benefits by taking more at one time On April 14 of 2005 a federal judge, Tena Campbell of the federal district court in Salt Lake City Utah reversed the ban on ephedra. This reversal forced the FDA revise their decision to ban products containing Ephedra.. The FDA lifted the ban recently because they where forced to realize Ephedra based products, if used properly, had astounding benefits, especially weight loss by naturally increasing energy and metabolism. Ephedrine is found in many over-the-counter medications such as Sudafed, Contac, Primatene, and Bronkaid, but it has been used for over 5,000 years. It was used by the Chinese for many health issues including asthma and bronchitis. Ephedra is a powerful blood purifier, being a popular folk remedy for such conditions as arthritis, rheumatism, bursitis and other painful muscle and joint problems. Since Ephedra is a vasoconstrictor, it has also been used to stop internal bleeding. There is only one company that is able to legally sell Ephedra based products. The rights to market an Ephedra based product that aids in weight loss where bought by the makers of Betafuel. The main goal of Betafuel is to help its users to lose weight quickly and easily. If you are interested in this product, and would like to find out more information concerning Betafuel, it can be found here at http://www.ephedracenter.com. Former asthmatic turned competitive runner/mtn biker. Overcoming health problem and/or hurdles doesnt need to be harder than it has to be. Whether it be asthma, obesity, or any other form of handicap, all safe option to over come the hurdle should be made available. It is my goal to help inform those who may not realize these options exist. Information is the key to over coming all obstacles in life. Is It Time to Request a Business Loan?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mary_Wise]Mary Wise There are certain situations in the life of a company that require some sort of finance in order to be solved. The owner or owners do not always have money to capitalize the business and the idea of requesting a business loan rises immediately. Knowing which situations require financing through a lending institution and which require other solutions makes the difference between a good businessman and one with lack of criteria. Financing Future Income or Financing Spending This is the key to the whole issue. There are mainly two kinds of situations when a business loan can be contemplated as an option. If a company needs funds to make the necessary changes to increase the business income, then as long as certain security measures are taken, requesting a business loan doesnt have to be such a deal. It is important that you make sure that the probability of success is high and that chances are that youll effectively have more income if you invest the money you obtain from the loan. On the other hand, if spending has gone out of control and you need to cover companys costs, requesting a loan to do so is not the best solution and its justified only after certain measures have been taken. Financing unproductive spending with a loan while hoping for your income to increase is a rather dangerous thing to do. Unnecessary expenditures should be cut immediately if such a situation presents and a business loan can be used in these circumstances only to buy enough time to solve it. But you need to make sure to increase your income/spending ratio so as to be able to afford the monthly payments comfortably. Things that need to be watched closely are: spending on personnel, spending on suppliers, spending on advertisement, spending on equipment and maintenance, etc. You need to ask yourself what can be done so the deficit situation does not present again and you dont have to resort to a business loan to cover loses anymore. There is a lot of planning and forecasting implied in this and you may need to get help from professionals. Sometimes businesses that have grown uncontrolled need a whole redesign of their processes in order to optimize profits. What if a Business Loan is the only Option If after making the necessary adjustments you still need a loan or if you need the money in order to buy you enough time to cut your expenses and increase your income/spending ratio, you should apply for a [http://www.badcreditfinancialexperts.com/guaranteed-finance-business-loans.html]business loan rather than a business line of credit. This is because a business loan will force you to make all the adjustment while a business line of credit will give you too much flexibility and you may fail to make the decisions that are necessary for your business to recover. Tips To Keeping Her Happy

By Nicole Weirich Do you ever wonder why the girl your dating is always pissed off? No, its not that time of the month, and she isnt having a bad hair day. Have you ever stopped to think that maybe its you? Sometimes men can do the stupidest things and dont even realize theyre doing them. Here are some tips to keeping your woman happy all the time: 1. Dont check out other women, or at least not in front of your girlfriend! I cannot stress to you how incredibly annoying it is to watch your guy gawking at someone else. We know you look at other girls, and we know you think they are hot, but we dont want to see or hear about it from you. Keep that behavior for when youre with your friends. This is a surefire way to turn her sweet mood into sour. 2. Tell her she is beautiful, not hot. A woman can hear she is hot from just about anyone, even the dude next to her at the red light, and well it gets old. Make her feel special by telling her how beautiful she looks today, or how pretty she is. Believe me, you will get a much more positive reaction then if you were to say, Baby, youre so hot. 3. Dont play games. Why do guys feel the need to wait three days after theyve gone out with a girl to call her? This is by far the stupidest game ever played. If you like her, then call her, whenever you want. Women hate sitting by the phone wondering if youre going to call. It makes us think you arent interested, so call her the next day, I promise she wont think youre too clingy. 4. Be polite. Remember, you are the man in this relationship, which means you should be the one taking care of her. Dont let her open the door, and dont let her pay for herself. This will certainly put her in a bad mood if she has to. And a bad mood means youre going to be lonely at the end of the night if you know what I mean. Keeping your lady happy isnt that hard. Just follow these simple rules and I promise her mood will be more positive than ever before. And remember this, there are three things she wants you to do: listen, be nice, and give her attention. Wood Turning and the Compost Pile - A Problem in the Shop is Gold in the Garden

By Darrell Feltmate Wood turning generates shavings. This simple rule seems to escape many who take up the craft of wood turning, however, it quickly becomes apparent as the floor disappears under the growing mound. Stage one of removal is obvious and many simply resort to a garbage can and snow shovel to restore the floor space. The problem is, a couple of twelve inch bowls later the garbage can is full and more shavings come quickly. Assuming the yard is large enough, a home composting station is the answer. Compost is desired by home gardeners and commercial ones alike. While many communities now offer a recycling setup with yard waste removal and will take the shavings away, even a yard waste container fills quickly. Compost may be spread on a lawn or throughout the flower or vegetable garden for a long lasting soil amendment and fertilizer. Compost is simply rotted organic matter. Some complicated systems exist for making it but mostly it is a matter of supplying what makes things rot; moisture, air, and food. The microorganisms that cause rot for composting east carbon and nitrogen as well as a host of other micro nutrients. If the first two are supplied the rest will take care of themselves. The easiest way to compost the shavings is to pile them up and leave them for a few years. Material at the bottom will be composted and the stuff at the top goes at the bottom of the new pile. Unfortunately for the prolific turner, this can make a lot of large piles in a hurry. It is best to speed up the process. A three pile system works best for fast composting. Pile one holds material that is accumulating for a full pile. The second pile is one well underway and the third is merely waiting to be used. The real secret to making quick compost is the right material correctly fed and watered. The right material to collect is a mixture of green and brown materials. Brown plant matter such as dried leaves and grass tend to be higher in carbon than green materials such as garden waste, kitchen waste and fresh grass clippings. These green materials are higher in nitrogen in the form of proteins. For the wood turner it is obvious that brown material will come from the wood shavings and the problem moves to a solution. Wood is designed to rot. Trees that fall in the forest eventually become part of the forest floor. Poplar and birch, two favorite North American woods for turning, are two of the first trees to start after a forest fire. They grow quickly, especially poplar and fall easily in the woods. They also rot quickly replenishing the soils for the other trees to follow. Turners will recognize which woods rot easily as they look for spalt lines in wood. These are markings of microorganisms which cause black and tan designs that are indicative of beginning rot. Equal parts of brown and green materials in a pile of about three feet diameter and three feet will create a compost growing atmosphere that will cause the organisms to generate a heat that will pasteurize the pile, killing weed seeds and speeding the composting process. Water must be added to keep the pile moist and often in the cool of early morning one can see the steam rising from the pile. Oxygen is best added by forking the pile from one location to another, close beside it. While a pile left alone will compost in a year, one that is turned every three to four days will be finished in as little as two weeks. This should be sufficient to remove the problem of growing shavings piles and provide enough compost for one’s own garden, no matter how large. Darrell Feltmate is a juried wood turner whose web site, http://aroundthewoods.com , contains detailed information about wood turning for the novice or experienced turner as well as a collection of turnings for your viewing pleasure. Weight Loss - Do You Know What You’re Eating

By Michael Russell Imagine we live in an era where nearly everything you could purchase at the grocery store has full nutritional labels, in order for us to be educated on exactly what it is we’re ingesting. How many of us read those labels? Furthermore of the few that actually do read the labels how many of you really understand everything you’re reading? Yes companies now are obligated to disclose their products’ nutritional information but it seems they found a way to confuse us even more than when there weren’t any labels. Have no fear because by time you’re finished reading you’ll not only be able to interpret these labels but you will be a fully fledged label reading expert. First and foremost, get to know the ingredients! Many people still don’t know that the ingredients are listed in their order of relevance to the product. If you read a label and sugar is listed first, that would mean that the majority of this product is made of sugar. A great rule to know when dealing with labels is to never purchase a product that has any of the following words listed in its first five ingredients. These words are high fructose corn syrup, sugar, animal fat, enriched and partially hydrogenated oil. High fructose corn syrup and sugar are two ingredients that will spike your insulin level causing fat storage, as well as heart disease. Animal fat is self explanatory, it’s 100% saturated fat, which your body has no nutritional use for. Enriched is a little trickier. What enriched entails is the company takes all of the good nutrients out of the product and replaces a small amount. Anything that needs to be enriched is obviously not good enough in the first place. Hydrogenated oil is a fat compound used to replace real oil in products and acts as a preservative. The problem is our bodies do not know how to metabolize it and it ends up just sitting around in our bodies and clogging our arteries. Hydrogenated oils are known as trans fats. The three main macronutrients you need to understand on a label are protein, carbohydrate and fat. Protein is self explanatory in the sense that what you read is exactly what you get. Carbohydrates and fats on the other hand are a little more complicated. Let’s look at fat first. On a label, fat is usually broken down into two categories, one being saturates (saturated fat) and the other being the trans (transient fats). You don’t want your food to have either of these fats as neither are beneficial to your health. You do however need to have unsaturated fat. If the unsaturated fat is not listed this is how you figure its value out. You simply read the total fat and minus the value of the saturates and trans from it. The resulting number is the amount of unsaturated fat. Now let’s take a look at carbohydrates. This macronutrient is also usually broken down into two sub categories, the first being fiber and the second sugar. Again we don’t want sugar in our diet but this isn’t as straight forward as the fat reading. In this instance we’ll be given an amount of sugar but it does not necessarily mean “sugar” in can be from fruits (fructose) which is much better then plain table sugar. How we go about determining this is by going back to the ingredients and checking to see if either sugar or fruits are listed. If sugar is an ingredient then we know that the sugar reading is mainly from sugar but if fruit is listed we know that the sugar reading comes from the fructose in the fruit. Fiber as you should know, is un-dissolvable and goes right through your body without causing any detriment to your health. So when reading the carbohydrates on a label, make sure to distinguish whether the sugar is a good sugar (fructose) and if the majority of the carbohydrate is fibrous in nature before purchasing it. I know this is a lot to take in but in the long run you will not be intimidated by labels but rather empowered. Being able to read labels is a critical step needed in monitoring one’s diet in any weight loss program and now you have the knowledge to do so. Let’s Talk About Trust

By Nan S. Russell I agree with Brooker T. Washington, “Few things help an individual more than to place responsibility upon him, and to let him know that you trust him.” I agree with Mr. Washington because I’ve experienced trust. I’ve been on both the giving and receiving side of the equation, and I know first hand the power of trust. That’s what trust is. It’s power. Power to transform an ordinary, everyday, OK place to work, into an environment where people are almost unstoppable. Power to unleash creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, and fun. Power to bring out the energy, talents and gifts of individuals, to build teams, to achieve amazing results. Look around your organization. There’s some division or department or work unit or team that’s like that … some pocket of excellence where people shine, ideas flourish, and exceptional work is achieved. That’s where trust is. People work for people, not for companies. And no one needs permission to create his or her own pocket of excellence. Trust is not about them giving it to us. Trust is an action we can take. We start trust by giving trust. But, simple behaviors diminish it. The first question I ask when a staff member shows up in my office to tell me a tale of woe about a co-worker is a simple one: “Have you talked to them?” I can count on one hand how many times in twenty years of managing that someone said yes. Ninety-nine percent of the time, the person who is the offending party was never told about the issue before it was escalated to management. Will the co-worker feel betrayed? I did when a peer went to my boss without giving me a chance to address their concerns, or informing me there even was an issue. Was trust diminished? You can bet on that one. Hate those e-mails where someone cc’d “the world”, including your boss and your boss’s boss, and everyone else’s boss? Not a trust building behavior, I’d say. What can you do about it? Don’t send e-mails like that and don’t push the “reply all” button. Address your remarks to those that need to be included. Ever get irritated when people blow off meetings, miss deadlines, and take weeks to reply? Not behaviors that build confidence and trust. So, be aware of behaviors that irritate you, and don’t do them. Model the behaviors you want from others. If we want to work in a trusting environment, pay attention to yourself … to your thinking, your intentions, your actions, your commitments, and your promises. Trust is not blind or unconditional, and it’s not without risk. But is it a powerful choice you can make if you want to be winning at working. (c) 2004 Nan S. Russell. All rights reserved. Top 5 In-Demand Careers

By Brian Bowman Are you searching for a career field that is challenging, interesting, and needs qualified workers? Before you decide which path to choose, take a few minutes to consider five of the most in-demand careers areas. These areas are, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), going to experience high growth and demand for workers over the next ten years. 1. Education and health services The BLS estimates that between now and the year 2014, fully 30% of all jobs created in the U.S. will come from the healthcare and educational services arena. Examples of specific careers that are included in this employment sector are: * Registered nurse * Medical assistant * Radiology technician * Medical imaging * Social services * Childcare * Teaching * Educational support Healthcare in particular is already experiencing an extreme shortage of qualified workers, and the problem will only get worse as time goes by. Anyone who chooses a career in healthcare is likely to have excellent employment opportunities well into the future. 2. Professional and business services This area encompasses many career choices that cover a wide range of professional and business functions. Among the careers that fall into this category are: * Business administration * Employment services * Computer systems design * System administration * Cyber security * Management consulting * Technical consulting The main driver for this sector is the increasing complexity of doing business in the modern world. The integration of business and technology will continue to explode, creating many opportunities for people who want to manage or support such integration efforts. 3. Information We live in the age of information, and the demand is increasing for workers who can develop, run and support the information economy. Careers in this category include: * Software publishing * Internet publishing * Internet broadcasting * Internet service providers * Web search portals * Data processing and analysis * Telecommunications technicians * Wireless services * Broadband internet services The information sector is not about to shrink, as our world becomes increasingly information-dependent. A good option to consider is any career that contributes to the development, operation and innovation of information technology and services. 4. Leisure and hospitality The combination of population growth and increasing affluence means U.S. demand for leisure and hospitality services will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. A wide variety of careers fit into this category, including: * Recreation planning * Fitness training * Gambling and other amusement-related positions * Food services * Hotel management * Travel planning Leisure and hospitality is one category that holds a great deal of promise for anyone who chooses to pursue career options in its many fields and disciplines. 5. Trade, transportation and utilities This category as a whole will show strong growth over the next ten years, but it is a bit of a mixed bag when you take a closer look. Some specific segments within this category are projected to decline in demand over time, so it is important to understand which careers hold the most promise. Careers that are projected to increase in demand include: * Truck transportation services * Warehousing services * On-demand transport * Retail services * Water engineers * Water and sewage operations * Waste remediation management As business continues to focus on improving efficiency through better management of inventory and transportation activities, the role of the trucking industry and inventory control/storage management will increase. The emphasis will continue to be on just in time manufacture, transportation and delivery of goods. Putting it all together Choosing a career field that will be in demand in the years to come is an important process. There are many sources of information on projected demand for different industries and career fields, so you should do some research and consult multiple resources. Be cautious, though, about the resources that you select because some are reputable and others are not. In general, projections and information from government and business organizations are more likely to be accurate than projections and information from a job search engine or a web site promoting the sale of its career building products and services. When it comes to selecting a career, it is well worth the time and effort it takes to research, gather information and talk to career experts across a variety of industries. Introduction to Lake Fly Fishing Techniques

By Dale East Often lake fish will gather in schools and cruise around looking for food, but often it is the small fish that rise to take surface insects while the bigger ones feed in deeper water. Where the fish are Fish in lakes aren’t much different than fish in rivers. Their concerns are still protection from predators and finding food. Lake fly fishing techniques involved finding the areas where both these concerns are met. Remember that lake water is generally deeper than rivers water, so bottom structures may not be visible. Try fishing where a stream enters the lake. Insects are often carried into the lake here and the fish will be waiting for them. Structure in lakes includes piers and boat ramps, weeded areas and deadfalls. Fish are likely to be hanging around man-made structures that have been sunken into the waters. Lake fish like to hang around drop off areas. Here they can munch on food that has fallen into the water and dart back into the depths when spooked. Warm water fish gather around natural springs and weeds also. Dry flies and lake fishing Lake fly fishing techniques usually involved fishing deep. It takes energy for a fish to take insects from the surface and there has to be a darned good reason for a bigger fish to do so. A big hatch might entice a large fish from the depths to feed, but you are more likely to catch smaller fish when using dry flies on lakes. Wet flies and lake fishing If a fish expends more energy than he receives in searching for food, he will not survive long. Lake fishing techniques include knowing how an aggressively feeding fish will behave. He will check out the feeding zones, feed, then return to safe water to rest until it is feeding time again. If you are looking for large lake fish, you need to get your hook down where they are holding. The larger the fish, the more energy it takes for him to feed, therefore the offering needs to be worthwhile. A big juicy-looking streamer hanging right in front of his nose will often tempt a fish. The advantage of fishing wets over dries in lakes is that you can vary the depth and the retrieve until you find the combination that the fish cannot resist. Keep a close eye on your line because often the take is subtle. Using a strike indicator is helpful here. Often a sinking line or sink tip can give you a big advantage when fly fishing a lake. You have a much greater chance for success if you can get your fly to the fish. Who were the Essenes?

By Jeffery S. Miller An early Jewish ascetic sect around 350 A.D. known as the Essenes, took many of their ideas from early gnosticism. The Essenes provoked conflicts with the Biblical Pharisees and the Sadducees. They even argued that the established Hebrew lunar year was inaccurate. They finally were forced out of Jerusalem, and they established a monastery at Qumran. The Essenes were divided into two parts-the married, as well as the unmarried. All of the Essenes property were communal. Alot of their problems arose because of their communal lifestyle. The Essenes educated their youth with many popular teachings of the day. They also taught the philosophy of the greek, Pythagoras. The greek translation for the word essene is essaios, which means secret or mystic. The Essenes believed that Jesus came from their educational system. It is disputed whether Jesus’ parents, Joseph and Mary belonged to this group. Many researchers believe that the Essenes were among the better educated class of the Jewish people of that time. Not much was known of the group until 1947, the year of the discovery of the Red Sea Scrolls. As the Roman armies advanced during the Jewish revolt of 70 A.D., the Essenes fled Qumran after hiding their texts in earth jars in nearby caves. I don’t know if Jesus was an Essene, but the group did exist. The Essene findings were considered heritical by the church.
