Do Plants Like the “Exotics”?

By C Roe Placement Of Exotic Plants And Trees Placement of exotic plants and trees is critical for their overall development and long-term survival. It not only determines the general happiness of the plants, but also the overall appeal it gives to the habitat. You should make the final choice of location only after having considered several other factors. If some part of your house or garden receives too much sunlight, you can grow sun; loving plants that will help to provide shade. It’s also important to ensure that the plants have the appropriate space for spreading themselves. Competing plants shouldn’t be grown very near to each other. Dominating and invasive plants and trees should be placed afar from tender plants. You should also keep in mind the ultimate size the plant is likely to achieve. This will avoid obstruction of driveways or sidewalks, not just for you but at times even for your neighbors. Growing Plants In Containers Can Be Rewarding If you are eager to incorporate tropical foliage, trees, palms and flowers in your garden, however feel discouraged because of relatively small area, growing plants in containers is the perfect solution. By confining the exotic plants to a relatively small space, maintenance can be less of an unpleasant task. This also gives you the liberty to move them back and forth to different sites, as and when the plant requirement for sunlight and moisture changes. At the same time, you can introduce changes in the overall look of the garden by combining and contrasting with other garden plants. Exotic plants can be in grown in containers with soil alone or with alterations, or completely soil less. Whatever be the preference, the medium must ensure good drainage and adequate water-retentive capacity. This is best accomplished by using a combination of materials (like sand, gravel along with loam) of various particle sizes to make available small air spaces and free-drainage. The composition of the soil bed should in essence be rather simple and purposeful. You can either use peat moss or rich loam to constitute the bulk of your mix. Since, peat moss is highly acidic, always add ground limestone to maintain the pH level of soil. To increase aeration and drainage, you can include pine bark or sand in the mix. Adding Vermiculite to soil will increase its water-retention capacity. For new plants, sparingly applied granular-type fertilizers can be beneficial as a starter feed. Soil-less plants are grown on liquid-feed and addition of fertilizers is advisable for supplying nutrients required by the plant. Factors To Consider Before Having Your Engagement Photos Taken

By Christopher Maxwell If you are planning an engagement photo session, this article will hopefully provide some tips and pointers to consider as you plan. What style photos do you want? Studio or outdoor? Formal or casual? Posed or photojournalistic? Try to think of your personalities and how you would like to share your news with your family and friends (and perhaps a photo that can be included with your wedding invitations) and think of what style of photography would best match that. Discuss your thoughts with your fianc/fiance. Types of photos Search the web for engagement photos and perhaps print out a few to take with you to your engagement session. There are thousands of sample photos online; having four or five that you like will give the photographer some extra ideas to try out. You should also talk to your married friends and see what they did for their engagement photos. Professional or amateur? You are likely to get better results if you hire a professional. They know what they are doing and can work with you to get great photos. However, if budget is a concern, instead of having no photos taken, try to find a friend that will take your photos. Especially a friend that has some photography skill. If you are using a friend for the pictures, do not do an indoor photo session! Try to have an outdoor photo session in the evening as the sun is setting - but without any direct sun shining on you. Go to a park or other beautiful location. And then have fun! If you need to, go out and take some test photos to see what the location and lighting looks like and then go back the next day for the actual photo session. Wedding Photographer? Many wedding photographers include an engagement session in their wedding photography packages. It is a wonderful way for you to test out a photographer and see how well you interact with them, and how well they are able to put you at ease during a photo session. If you are having engagement photos taken in the same area where the wedding will be, and you are hiring a professional photographer for your wedding, I strongly recommend you consider using the same photographer for your engagement photo session. Dont be Nervous! The key to a successful engagement photo session, and what many professionals are skilled at, is helping you relax in front of the camera. Dont get bogged down with the details of the photo session and how you are appearing (its hard not to be vain during such an important session I know!). Instead, focus on your fianc/fiance and your love for them. Relax and enjoy being with them. If the photographer has posing tips, have fun while trying them out. If a friend is taking your photos I believe you have a better chance of success by going out and having a fun, relaxed, photo session than going for a serious, posed session. Even IF you had to go back out for another photo session because the first batch didnt turn out well oh, well. Consider it another special outing with the one you love. What to Wear The wedding vows have not been exchanged yet, but you have, in essence, already pledged your life and love to your fianc/fiance. I would strongly recommend that you coordinate your clothing. Whether it is tan and whites, or perhaps denim whatever the colors, work at coordinating. Casual or formal? Again, make sure you coordinate. Christopher Maxwell does engagement photography in the Kansas City area. Prepare for Your First Online Dating Experience

By Claire Brent There are many reasons why a person would choose to date online rather, or in addition to dating in person. After all, online dating is based on your own schedule and can be as personal or impersonal as you would like. When preparing for your first online dating experience, there are a few things to consider that will help make the experience a positive one. Know Your Audience Dating online can be a great way to get to know someone without having to reveal too much of yourself all at once. With the privacy that the internet affords, you can keep certain personal details to yourself until you feel more comfortable or until you feel youve gotten to know someone better. Its important to keep in mind that not everyone who is on a dating website is genuine, or telling the truth about themselves. Approach online dating with an air of caution, making sure not to reveal any details about your location or other information about yourself that would make it easy for someone to find you. Even if youve chosen someone to get to know better, let the process take its time and gradually reveal information one piece at a time. A person with only good intentions will respect this and will most likely be doing the same thing. Limit Your Expectations When dating online, its important to look at the whole process as more of a casual one rather than as a potential, actual soul mate connection. Online dating will take time, sometimes as much, if not more, time than actual person-to-person dating and, just as in an offline relationship, things may simply not work out. This is not meant to discourage online daters, because there are a number of advantages to dating online, however its important to go into it with a little perspective and open-mindedness. Be Equipped When preparing for your first online dating experience, there are a few things to have ready. Most dating sites offer the option of uploading a picture of yourself, so its good to have one ready that you dont mind other people seeing. Your picture will be the first impression that most people get, so make it a good one. It doesnt have to be professional one, but make sure it is a picture that really resembles the true you. Also, a high-speed internet connection and possibly even a webcam are two other things that will help the online dating process along. Using outdated connections such as dial-up will make online, real time chatting more difficult, so, if you plan to really put a lot of time and effort into online dating, it may be a good idea to speed up your internet connection. Webcams are a great tool for allowing online daters to see each other face-to face. Expect that any online relationship that you may encounter will want to move to the next level and having a webcam will bring you as close to the other person as you can get without actually meeting them in person. Hooked on Cyber Sex

By Ed Howes As I write this I have only been online three months. It has been a steep learning curve indeed. I don’t know near enough about computers, the internet, and cyber sex. But I want to know more and have learned how to know more about all these things. I caved in to the cyber sex invitation about ten weeks ago, fascinated as much by the marketing as the product. Marketers just kept knocking on my door and continue to do so nearly every day. Persistence pays. In the past ten weeks I posted personal profiles on five dating and hook - up websites. None had my photo until last week, when a friend Emailed me a dozen she had taken a while back. The first site I posted on drew three responses to my profile within two days. A good sign. Two more the next three days. I could not tell much from the posted photos but the profiles were intriguing and I wanted to talk to each of the five women. But to do so, I had to pay. I scraped up the money for a six month subscription, mailed it off to headquarters and the company claims they never received it. I pulled my profile and never went back. Money down the drain. But I was not ready to quit. Another website on which I posted a profile yielded over twenty responses in just three weeks. But unpaid members on this site can’t even view the profiles of those who contact them, let alone respond. So my quest became to find which service offered the most contact benefits to non paying members. One allowed the viewing of all member profiles but only pre written flirt contacts. No personal messages without paid upgrade. Another allowed very limited profile views and limited contact, including on site E mails in a few conditions. It took a few weeks just to become vaguely familiar with Adult Friend Finders’ many features, rules and conditions but I am now quite passionate about this site. It offers tons of interactivity to its unpaid or standard members. This sets it apart from the others in its marketing strategy and member benefits. They have a magazine for members to read and contribute articles, if they choose. They have a database of over 35,000 erotic articles contributed by mostly amateur member writers. I expected the stories to be very different depending whether the author was male or female and instead, from early reading, have found more similarity than difference. What began for me as a concession to lust has become both an education and a personal growth process. They also have a member driven advice column (in fact the entire site is member driven) in which all subjects are fair game and most relate to sex. One member poses a question. Other members can vote on the question itself, and/or post a response. Members can also vote on every response. It’s like reading Sex Dear Abby and the members are Abby. If you aren’t entertained by the reading alone, there might be something wrong with you. The education and personal growth aspects begin when you feel a strong affinity with the people who are exposing their selves, desires and fantasies to judgement and criticizm and decide to join them by filling out a personal profile. The questions vary from site to site but all offer both mandatory responses and optional. This is where the personal growth process begins. Honestly completing the profile helps you to see who you really are. Far too many of us really don’t want to know and remain strangers even to those we love. The optional questions are harder. Now we find out how much of who we are we will reveal to those who might want to know. Is this question too personal to answer? If so, I will pass and the profile reader will know what I consider too personal to answer publicly. The great challenge for most is two essay questions: basically, who do I think I am and what do I think I want in a friend, date, sex buddy, lover, life partner. All sites I posted on allow you to think this over and change your profile after your initial post because they know you will soon wish you said this instead of that. To answer these two questions for one’s self is liberating and growth promoting. For instance; what do I wish I could honestly say about myself? What would it take to make it true? So we enter a virtual meat market, hot to trot and soon see there is an emotional, mental and spiritual component below the surface appearance of things. This too is liberating. Because we use made up names, we have some anonymity if our photos do not show our faces and I would say about eighty or ninety percent do not. That very anonymity helps us to be more honest because we expect we will eventually meet people who will compare what they know of us prior to meeting, with what they know after the meeting. If you are not reaonably close to what you claim, you tell the other person you are not to be trusted and there can be no foundation to any kind of relationship at all, including a one night stand for those so inclined. All the sites show due concern for personal safety and self protection that goes well beyond safe sex. This truly matters. One is exposed to weirdos and con artists of every stripe, perhaps more so with the under thirty crowd of the inexperienced, but age is no guarantee. Us dirty old men will turn up too. I had a pleasant conversation with a young female fellow club member this morning, who has had a dozen positive meetings. But one dirty old man from a hundred miles away wished to purchase a long term and devoted companion. He harrassed her by phone and Email for a few weeks after their meeting and gave up. To do this thing, it is useful to have better than average intuition. I am convinced an overwhelming majority of the members do or they would not be advertising their desires and fantasies to the world. Hence, there is a group or collective consciousness within this virtual community quite apart from that of Joe Six Pack America and Joe has no desire to be there. At least, not for long. It requires time. It requires patience. Though many personal ads proclaim: “this is what I want and I want it now”, the reality is; how badly do you really want anything? Can you shift from the fear based society of the past to the love based society of the future? Because this is what is happening in the cyber sex community, even if most of the community does not quite see it. I do. It’s real. In fact, on line hook up is dirt cheap in the dollar costs of the possible benefits, but if time is money, members are spending fortunes. I have now spent hundreds of hours just familiarizing myself with a few web sites and participating on one. The time situation struck me hard in my imagination on my first hook up site. I have lots of free time in which I usually write and publish to share the things I learn with others who do not have the time but to read an article now and then. It is a personal act of giving I have fully committed to. But what if I wound up dating or visiting all five of the women who first responded to my profile? Add the time I would spend on them to the time I would spend to replace them if desired and I would do very little writing. So before you decide to dip your toe in the great cyber sex ocean, ask yourself how much time can you devote to meeting people, corresponding, chatting, making friends, choosing sex buddies, lovers, playmates and partners - and just learning how it all works. How fast do you want any of this to happen? It’s your time (I hope) but I have yet to regret any hour I have so far spent. I am unabashedly excited. Cyber sex is the greatest thing since the internet! It is truly transformational whether you are just an observer or a participant. (PUBLISHERS! Free Promotion Here - Now! Magnetic Therapy - Does it Work?

By Bill Morrison PROS In the United Kingdom the Health authorities have given approval to a form of magnetic wrap used in the treatment of leg ulcers. In clinical trials the leg wrap showed a greater than 60% success rate and doctors are allowed to prescribe this treatment. There are several theories as how magnetic therapy works. Some people believe magnets improve circulation by attracting the iron in blood. As a result it improves circulation and increases the oxygen supply in the affected muscle and tissue to improve the healing process. Doctors at Imperial College London administered intense magnetic pulse stimulation (similar to strength of an MRI scan) to people suffering from partial damage to their spinal cord. This form of therapy led to improved muscle and limb movement, with increased ability to feel sensations. Some people believe magnets reduce negative energy in the body while others believe they encourage healthy tissue to generate minute electrical currents which provide a stimulus to promote the healing process. There are a significant number of people using magnetic therapy to treat joint pains, sports injuries, backache, muscle soreness and many other ailments with lots of anecdotal evidence as to the success of the various forms of treatment. In addition to the increasing number of people using magnetic therapy treatments it is becoming more widely used to treat animals, particularly for those with ailments like arthritis. Many animal owners often report claims of remarkable improvement. CONS Lack of good controlled studies carried out with the same disciplines as those normally carried out when testing new drugs. This is probably the single biggest factor working against the proponents of magnetic therapy. Even where double-blind studies have been carried out results have often been questioned due to anomalies found in the control groups. Studies carried out into benefits of magnetic insoles compared to placebo insoles (of aluminium foil) showed no significant benefit using the magnetic insoles compared to the placebo. The claim that magnets increase circulation is questioned on several fronts. Not least, if the circulation increase was of any significance the skin area under the magnet would become red. Tests involving measuring blood flow when an area of the body subjected to a high magnetic field found no increase in blood flow. Other randomized studies with chronic back pain sufferers showed no significant improvement in pain or mobility when treatment with magnetic therapy was compared with a placebo treatment. In the US there has been a significant number of successful legal claims by federal and state administrations brought against companies selling magnetic products which claim to bring relief to people suffering from ailments like sciatica, herniated discs, asthma, bronchitis, cataracts, chronic fatigue syndrome, colitis, diverticulitis, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and many more health conditions. In Conclusion There is little scientific evidence to verify that magnets placed about the body can help relieve pain or cure any disease. Many magnetic products are embedded in bandage type supports with Velcro fastenings could it be that the bandage effect itself helps improve the blood circulation and that in itself helps the healing process? Many magnetic bracelets are copper, could it be that absorbsion of copper through the skin plays a significant part in helping people who suffer from copper deficiency There are many users of magnetic products who swear by them and if the product itself is inexpensive and it might be worth a try too see if it works for you. If it does, even if it is a placebo effect, who cares. If it doesnt work for you move on to something else either conventional or alternative. The information contained in this article should not be used to diagnose, treat, or prevent any disease or condition. You should always consult with your health care professional especially relating to the suitability of alternative treatments on all health matters that may require diagnosis or medical attention Bill Morrison has his own website http://www.help4urback.com where he describes his own personal experiences coping with lower back pain and sciatica. Fertility and Tanning Beds

By Larry Scott Over the decades since the invention of tanning beds, different urban legends have popped up; including lowered fertility by using a tanning bed. Fortunately, there have been no conclusive studies that indicate that tanning beds lower fertility or sperm count. However, this does not mean tanning does not come with certain concerns for individuals in their childbearing years, particularly for women who may be pregnant. The primary concerns for pregnant women do not include the fable that ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can cause skin cancer and premature aging, will directly harm the unborn fetus. They must be concerned with the following issues instead: 1 - Overheating may occur under the hot tanning lights and cause spinal malformations in the unborn child. 2 - Too much exposure to the same UV rays that tan your skin can cause a folic acid deficiency, which can create spina bifida in the unborn child. 3 - Laying flat on your back during the last trimester can put a lot of pressure on the lower back and reduce the blood flow to both your heart and to the growing fetus. This doesn’t mean pregnant women must avoid tanning beds, but it does mean they need to take precautions, such as: 1 - Particularly during the last trimester, use a vertical tanning bed or booth. Another option is to use tanning bed pillows to provide relief to the strained lower back. 2 - Avoid using tanning beds too long or too often. Ten to fifteen minutes two to three times a week is more reasonable for a pregnant woman. 3 - Stay hydrated and use a tanning bed lotion that adds moisture back into to the skin. While loss of fertility and tanning beds may be unrelated, overuse of tanning beds and an unhealthy pregnancy is, so if you think you may be pregnant, tan wisely. There is no reason to avoid tanning beds completely, since beds are no more dangerous to use than spending a day at the beach. However, it is important to take proper precautions again overexposure to the potentially harmful effects of UV rays. Larry Scott is a successful Webmaster and publisher of Tanning-Beds-Here.com. Enjoy Rose Gardening

By Gerardas Norkus The rose. It has been the subject of many a poem, prose and song. It has been one of the many symbols of beauty, love and female sexuality. It has warmed and won hearts all over. But before a rose becomes a bloom that has the power over many, it has to begin somewhere as a plain and innocent bud, unnoticed and enjoying its life along with the other buds. It is here in the rose garden where it all starts. Where the roses live until they are ready to be let go. Here is where the rose gardener toils and toils and toils until he is ready to let go. But for him it is not tiring work. The gardener enjoys both the trip and the destination. Rose gardening is an activity that can serve lots of purposes. Some go into it mainly for profit, as there is always a demand for roses. Probably because roses are one of the most popular flowers there are, famed for their beauty and smell. Some find them therapeutic and relaxing; tending to something which grows into beauty gives some people the feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment. Others find rose gardening, or just plain gardening a delight within itself. Whatever it is your purpose for doing rose gardening, if youre still a beginner, you have to know a few things first. Rose gardening is not a simple task, you dont happen to notice roses grow just about anywhere, dont you? These are delicate flowers which require your attention and dedication. First thing in rose gardening, you have to choose what variety of rose it is that you want to plant. But you cant just pick any variety. You have to take into consideration factors like growing conditions, garden size etc. After picking the rose variety that you want to plant, you have to prepare your spot. Rose gardening involves picking and preparing a good site and bed for plantation. A good site should ideally receive six hours of sun a day, or at least a good dose of sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. Adequately drained soil is a must, poor drainage or wet feet will be death for your flowers. Although roses would do well in most soil types, having a high organic content will be better. Do check the pH levels of your soil, 6.0 7.0 would be good. One of the highlight events in your rose gardening is planting. If youre planning to use bare root roses in your rose gardening, try to purchase them as close as possible to your planting time. Soak these first in water for 8 to 12 hours to help rehydrate the plant. You must also sweat the canes after planting them into the soil to avoid drying the canes up. There are different methods of doing this, most growers just put a moist brown paper bag over the canes. Potted roses are easier to plant and are ready for planting the whole season. You just take it out of the container and put it in a hole deep enough to accommodate the root ball. Same with box roses, although it generally recommended that you remove the cardboard box first (because the instructions might say otherwise). After you have prepared and planted, your rose gardening activities will mainly consist of mulching, pruning, fertilizing and of course, watering. You just have to prepare a rose gardening plan for these things. It would be good to research on the needs of the variety of rose that you have chosen. Have You Tried Cause Marketing

By Kevin Stirtz To help promote your small business or professional practice, consider tearing a page out of the corporate marketing playbook. For years big companies have partnered with nonprofits to co-promote their brands. And it has worked well because they keep doing it. In fact, since 1990, cause related marketing (also called corporate partnering) has grown 800%, according the Cause Marketing Forum. Its expected to reach $1.8 billion in spending in 2005. So, could this be something that might help your company? There are plenty of studies and reports that show consumers will support businesses that support charitable causes. You can see some them at www.CauseMarketingForum.com. But, beyond studies and reports I think it makes sense to partner with a local nonprofit for several reasons. First (and most important) its good thing to do. If its something you believe in and they do good work then your support makes sense. Plus it feels good! Second, word of mouth is the best advertising for most local businesses. Think of the positive word of mouth promotion you could generate by being actively involved with a well-respected local nonprofit. Third, we are inundated with offers and advertising and all types of marketing messages. People are becoming numb to much of it. They are making their buying decisions based on more emotional and substantive factors. I think local businesses that show they are contributing to their community have a big advantage over those that do not. Fourth, its a great way to develop a stronger connection with your customers. By partnering with a nonprofit they believe in you can offer your customers more than just your product or service. Youre offering them another way to contribute to the betterment of their community. And last (but certainly not least) its easy to do. So, how might a small business begin partnering with a local nonprofit? Before you jump into anything, make sure youre willing to commit to at least a year (preferably more). This is NOT a short-term project. This should be something youre willing to do on a long-term and ongoing basis, as long as it meets the needs of your company and your nonprofit partner. Start by seeing what nonprofits are active in your community. Then pick a few whose missions you strongly believe in. If you cant be passionate about their mission then dont put them on your list. At this point you might want to prioritize the list and focus on only the top choice. Or you might want to meet with several of them before you decide which one youd like to partner with. Of course, the final decision depends on how interested the nonprofit is in working with your company. Your message to them is that youd like to discuss some ways you can work together to help them continue to accomplish their mission. The details of how you do that are up to you and them. Here are some things you might incorporate into your partnership: *Co-branding: include the nonprofit logo and message in any advertising and promotions you do. *If you have a retail location, use it to help collect donations for them. *Co-host an event or fundraiser. *Find ways to get your customers and vendors involved with your nonprofit partner. *Use your existing communications (newsletters, emails, website, etc.) to tell people about your partnership. Its best if you and your partner establish some goals for the partnership and map out what each organization will do to help achieve the goals. Then you should meet on a regular basis to monitor and adjust as necessary. If you’d like to get better results from your marketing, consider cause marketing. It can be an effective way to promote your company while you help improve your community. —————————- More customers! More revenue! More profits! That’s what Kevin Stirtz helps companies create. Legal Age 101: When Is It Going To Be Legal?

By James Monahan Legal age is an age at which a person becomes entitled under the law to engage in a particular activity or becomes responsible for a particular act. Those acts and activities include getting married, getting a license, voting and basically anything that will make you accountable for your actions. Government sets a legal minimum age for all these. So before you head out to town for the supposedly biggest party of the season (which will probably include one or all of the following events: bringing your folks’ car and getting drunk like crazy and ending up in Vegas with some random person you’re about to marry) check out the legal ages for all your needs so you don’t end up in juvenile court or jail for that matter. Here’s a list of the most fundamental legal ages. Legal Age of Candidacy It is the legal minimum age at which a person can legally qualify to hold certain elected government offices. In many cases, it also determines the age at which a person may be granted ballot access for an election. Legal Age of Cconsent According to the law, when a person reaches the age of consent, persons are bound by their words and acts. There are different ages at which one acquires legal capacity to consent to marriage, to choose a guardian, to conclude a contract, and the like. For marriage, the age may be higher for males than for females if the jurisdiction does not guarantee equal rights to men and women. Age of consent also means the age below which consent of the female to sexual intercourse is not a defense to a charge of rape. Under common law this age was 10; state statutes in the United States generally set it between 13 and 18. Basically, legal age of consent is when you become solely responsible for your own actions. It’s about taking accountability. Legal Age of Majority In law, the age of majority is the age at which one acquires the full legal rights of an adult. This commonly includes things such as the right to vote and the ability to make contracts. Legal Drinking Age Many nations have a legal drinking age, or the minimum age one must be to drink alcohol. In most countries this is 16 or 18; in the US it is 21. Some countries distinguish between drinks with fairly low alcohol-content (such as beer and wine) and stronger spirit-based drinks. Legal Marriageable Age It is the age wherein an individual may decide on his or her own to marry or not. It’s different for most countries and the youngest so far is 16 with parental consent. Legal Minimum Driving Age Minimum driving age refers to the legal age after which a person can obtain a license to operate a motor vehicle. The minimum driving age varies between jurisdictions but is generally between the ages of 14 and 18. Legal Voting Age The voting age is the minimum legal age at which a person may vote in a governmental election. That means carrying out the right to suffrage. Legal ages were put into law for a reason. Age comes with education and experience and who would want a reckless, drunk 13-year-old driving down our streets, right? The Healing Arts: 18 Things Healers Learn, #16; Even God Doesn’t Mess With Choice

By Russ Reina Moments are composed of intricate patchworks of choices. To a certain extent, everything we do is a choice even though most are made unconsciously. Each of us has a vast array of filters. They are extremely fluid. They are filters of our physiology and experience as mitigated through the filters imposed on us by others. Our genetic makeup is a major filter through which we respond that differentiates us from the rest. A person who has grown up in the bayou, for example, is far more likely to have a filter operating that allows him to embrace the wonder of a snake whereas a city-dweller automatically recoils at the sight, or even thought, of one. Perhaps the bayou resident has a filter that places the snake within the larger context of being a natural expression of nature, where the city person sees it as a dangerous aberration to be feared. Interpretation of an event as either something welcoming or threatening is based on filters that also can come through choice. Since the city-dweller can take the time to read and learn more about snakes, he is just as capable, a week from now, to embrace the wonder of a snake. The only thing that changes is that new filters are added, some of which negate old ones, thereby shifting the interpretation. Our choices are based on our interpretation of events through the filters that are in place at the time. In a circular relationship, our interpretations are based on our choices as well. As a healer, when faced with someone making a critical choice in her life, its helpful to tune in to some of the filters that are in operation for her at the time. Although basic history and physical evaluation has its place in regards to getting a broad overview of the person, to a large extent, all of these indicators take a back seat to the filters that are operative in that very moment. A healer can act like the Optometrist who sits his charge down in front of a machine with rotating filters called lenses. She works with the person, using different dimensions of lenses until the right combination comes into place and clarity of vision occurs. The trick is not so much interposing your own filter on the individual, but finding the filters that work within the context of the persons own history. Ultimately, though, we cannot account for, nor understand, every filter through which an individual experiences her life; responding honestly to the filters that are present, she will make a choice that appears to us as self-destructive. Each of us makes choices like this all the time. In fact, if you look at it with a smile, we are a people who spend a significant part of our lives saying under our breath, Wow, that Gal is killing herself. The bottom line is each of us makes innumerable choices that can and often do contribute to our deaths. Death is a part of the structure of what we know as life. This could be the most common filter of all. It makes you wonder; for all filters can be modified! Another filter, for most of us, is that there is a Higher Power in some way involved with every moment. This ever-shifting form of intelligence, interpreted by the individual (and institutions for the individual) is called, for want of a better word (and out of my own laziness!) God. Because death happens, at a certain point we must accept that God is cool with any choice we make, even unto death. When a bunch of a persons individual filters complement and support each other — no matter how seemingly twisted to the observer — theres comes a point at which a choice may evolve that becomes fixed. Even the God of any of our choices simply allows that to be. This is where the only approach left is to identify that choice, honor it as real and valid for that person, and, perhaps most important of all, let him know and then let it go. Healers spend a portion of their time witnessing the unbearable; responding to choices that so fly in the face of their own life interpretations that it is painful to be around. But the reality is, the more you try to impose your own filters upon the individual, the more likely you are to encounter resistance. By working under the assumption that ultimately, the person will make choices appropriate to his history (and future!), you allow the person to direct his energy away from resistance and move it closer toward seeking balance for himself whatever that may look like and whether you understand it or not.
