Pond Design: Digitally Design Masterpieces; Virtual Water Features Part I

By Douglas Hoover One of the most challenging aspects of designing ponds and waterfalls is trying to convey my ideas to my client. Coming up with award-winning pond designs or implementing them using adequate skills and experience is not a problem. My challenge is getting my client to see what I see. Drawing and painting are not my forte; it is next to impossible for me to draw a rock, not to mention water. The hardest part for me is drawing perspective. Prior to discovering the art of digital design my most common phrase used was , Just trust me. Wait till your pond and waterfall is finished, I promise youll like it. Unfortunately, trust me are the most common two words spoken by used car salesmen! Thank goodness that most of my clients were referrals from other satisfied customers and already knew what I was capable of creating. Imagine a referral customer base of over 1,900 satisfied clients. A few years ago I discovered a computer program called Photo Shop and realized I could use it to create virtual photos of water features. I learned how to cut an item from one picture and paste it into another. Actually, that was nothing new for me since I did that in third grade. Its called cut and paste. Only now Im using a mouse instead of rounded scissors and edible white paste. (I hear the manufactures are adding vitamins to it now. :) I started out scanning dozens of photographs into Photo Shop, which converted them into a digital image capable of being manipulated in hundreds or thousands of ways. The Photo Shop program has a large learning curve, especially for someone who is unfamiliar with graphic design techniques, so I started searching for a solution for my pond design department. DIGITIZING PHOTOS Microsoft has developed a user-friendly software (small learning curve) for working with photographs. They can be scanned into the program or digital photos from a digi-tal camera can be downloaded into the program. Then each picture can be enhanced through a variety of processes such as brightness, contrast, blur, tint, etc., all with a simple click of the mouse. Once the photo is finished, I can then cut out objects from the picture, such as rocks, groups of rocks, plants, or portions of the waterfall and pond. Which I did from several thousand photos of waterfalls and ponds I have constructed over the past 26 years. I gathered these jpg images into an indexed library. Using this process with pictures from hundreds of my projects, I was able to build a substantial library of objects for pasting into the before photo of a clients yard for a pond design. Now I can take a digital picture of someones yard and download it into Microsofts Digital Image Suite program. Next, by dragging various items from my library, I can construct a waterfall and pond of any shape, size or configuration onto that picture. So thanks to the arrival of the digital age, I can construct on paper a virtual image or idea that was in my head. As a result, my clients can see exactly what their pond and waterfall will look like when finished. Now a pond design takes only minutes. Whether you are building a waterfall and pond for yourself or for a customer a pond design or waterfall design can be a marvelous thing. Simply marvelous! Happy koi, peace & joy Douglas C. Hoover; CEO of Aquamedia Corp, master Waterfall Builder, architect, engineer, freelance writer, author, designer & builder of over 1,900 waterfall and ponds in CA (26 years). How An Australian Wedding Photographer Survives Thirty Year Career

By Colin Croucher From very humble beginnings back in 1973, a photography business was established in Wangaratta, which is a large provincial town in the hub of North East Victoria Australia. Time has a habit of masking ones involvement in a certain career, and just recently the thirty-year mark was achieved in professional photography for the owner of this studio. The survival secrets to a long standing career are many and varied, but the ones that have stand out features are; absolute honesty and fair dealings with your customers, being enthusiastic and having a genuine care for your customers needs…. no matter how small that need may be. Sometimes it is just the small things that customers appreciate, it might be carrying heavy parcels, or framed portraits to their car, or giving them two or three complimentary prints they are only small rewards, but most customers enjoy them. Whenever a new business opens in a community, people tend to be a little curious as to the ethics of the people who are operating the business. If you happen to do one small thing wrong during that opening phase, you could suffer long-standing damage to the business as well as the owner’s reputation. Small things can irritate people and make them have negative thoughts about you or your business. We always had an in house joke with our customers; we’d say to them “if you really like our work, please tell at least TEN other people!” “But if you don’t like something we’ve done PLEASE tell us first, we want to make sure that you are 100% happy with our product and service”. And of course, good customers were always rewarded with bonuses the next time they came in, especially when friends came in and said that “so and so told us to come to your studio for a family sitting”…That is good referal business. Doing business with people is a two-way thing… as a business operator you need to win to make a profit, but the customer should also feel they have had a win…. that makes them feel happy, and they will talk to others in a positive light about you and your business, you will get plenty of positive feed back. One of the greatest compliments that photographer can receive is when the child of a parent that you once did work for, calls on the phone to ask, “Could you please photograph our wedding if you have the date available”. Photography styles & equipment may have changed quite a bit from those early days, but the enthusiasm and challenge is still there, and the basic principles of doing business with another person is still the same as it was at the beginning, because you are really only selling to human nature. Photography is a ever-ending challenge to capture new and exciting images. There is something very special about covering weddings, simply because there is just so much emotion around, an alert photographer can capture some magical moments of the bride and groom, the emotions are even stronger for the photographer if he also photographed mum & dad’s wedding a couple of decades earlier. Photographers get an absolute buzz out of that. And that also speaks volumes about the reputation of being sincere, and transacting fair business dealings within your local community. You should always constantly build absolute trust and credibility with your customers, they appreciate your trust, and will remain loyal and repay you ten-fold. Many first time brides simply don’t know how to choose a good photographer for their wedding, for many people it’s all based upon the question of “How Much will it cost me”. Buying photography is much, much more than just basing your decision purely on price alone. To choose a photographer, the first thing a bride should do is look at a selection of the photographers work either at his place of business or take a look at his web site to get an idea of the different styles that he or she does. Another important aspect for the bride to know is “what is the photographer like, are they friendly, honest, reliable, and what about on the day of the wedding, what kind of behaviour will he/she present? Unfortunately rude photographers do exist, make sure you don’t select one for your wedding day. The wedding day belongs to the Bride & Groom; it is not put on for the benefit of the photographer. A good photographer requires good people skills, as well as photography skills to capture meaningful & evocative images. If you have only had a short association with the wedding industry and your nature is caring, you will begin to understand that it is one of the endearing qualities that will help to promote you to a long-term survival in the wedding industry. Experience really does count. Col Croucher. Creating & capturing images has been a big part of Col Crouchers life…over thirty years in fact. Weddings & portraits represent a large part of it. But much of that time has been spent on commercial assignments photographing industrial plants, product photography, & aerial photography from helicopters. Col Croucher is the principle photographer of Coljan Photography. Visit our web site soon: http://www.coljanphotography.com We are based in Wangaratta. Vic. Australia. Miniature Golf On A First Date

By Peter Portero One great first date that not too many people think of is a game of miniature golf. There is no reason to stick with the traditional dinner and a movie. Miniature golf is a great way to interact with your date, while still having a good time. The competitive atmosphere will go a long way in setting your nerves. Miniature golf will also give you the chance to talk with your date, as opposed to a movie where you just sit and watch. During a game of miniature golf you can talk about anything and everything, in a laid back environment. Plus, not everybody is a couch potato! Some people like activities where you get to move around and be competitive. Ask your date if he or she likes sports. If they do, you should definitely consider miniature golf. Not to mention the fact that it is also a low cost alternative. For two people to play miniature golf you will on average pay $10. At the movies you are probably going to spend about twice that much. If you are looking for an alternative to the traditional first dates, look no further than miniature golf. It can make for an inexpensive night of fun. Brighter Outlook of Prepaid Calling Card Market

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eliza_Maledevic]Eliza Maledevic Prepaid calling cards exploded in telecommunication market because of the amount expediency that they give to consumers. Prepaid calling is all that is needed in making calls, no need to bring lots of coins just to use pay phone. And no more prepaid bills since the prepaid calling card youre using were already paid. One more reason why prepaid calling cards has fast growing popularity is the capacity that can give the users in order for them to regulate their calling time to save money on a monthly basis. Around Europe and Asia, prepaid calling cards are already been exploding for quite some time now. Since a user can only make specific calls corresponding to the monetary value of the prepaid calling card. Unlike in phone bill, user has no idea and just be surprise will the amounts that calls have reached. There is actually no deposits required, no credit history needed, to attain a prepaid calling card, all you have to do is pay for the card and the user can already make some calls. The market sales of prepaid calling cards augmented from $750 million to above $3.3 billion in just 5 years. So the revenues in prepaid calling card market over the US and Canada between 1995 and 2000 has rushed forward, the PELORUS Group reported. The domestic and international components of the market at once rose at this period of time. On the other hand, between the year 2001 and 2002, in North America the prepaid cad market decreased. The domestic prepaid calling card decreased through this phase of time. Nonetheless, the international prepaid calling cards still benefit continually with the growing revenues. The sum of the prepaid calling card revenues jumped back to over $3.2 billion by the rising popularity of the international calling cards. The rates of international calling have been decreased in past years to bigger parts of the population. The decreased rates were made not only because of the huge competition with prepaid calling card vendors but also with the rising competition to other form of telecommunication and VoIP. But as a result to this, there been rising level f acceptance among consumers. Thus, call times has developed in excess to off set the unfavorable effect of revenue fall down because of lower rates. Even though some other sectors of the market like the domestic calling have sloped down, the net effect is larger increase in revenues. In 2008, the volume of the international market will be over double the equivalent volume of the domestic market. A report says that in domestic prepaid calling card revenues foreseen to decrease from 2003 until 2008. In contrast with international prepaid calling card revenue which are certainly project to increase by roughly 33%, jumping to an estimation sum of $2.75 billion in 2008. Yet, the industry of [http://www.flatrateonline.net/ ]prepaid calling cards in not impermeable to problems. There is even a variety of opinions in regards to rechargeable cards. The issue here is that the retailers do not concur with the idea to sell the rechargeable cards since the sale is a one of a lifetime deal. The speediest rising method of merchandising is the vending machines. Since this method provides improved security measures the retailers will surely benefit from it. And in addition to that, this method doesnt require employee participation and only requires lesser inventory. Relationship Advice - A Sneak Peak into a Couple’s First Relationship Coaching Session

By Jeff Herring When couples come in for their first session, they typically come ready to air their complaints and gripes about the other person, perhaps hoping to win someone to their side. The first two questions I ask a couple in the first session are, “How did you meet?” and “What attracted you to each other in the beginning?” This surprises many couples at first, but my goal is to begin to help them focus on the strengths and positives in the relationship before we get to the problem areas. Let’s look in on how this went in a first session with a fictional couple we will call Bob and Mary. Me: “How did you two meet?” Bob: “We met in college through some mutual friends.” Me: “What first attracted you to each other?” Mary: “I thought Bob was a good-looking guy and he made me laugh. He was very spontaneous and fun-loving.” Bob: “Mary was really pretty and laughed at my jokes. We had a lot of fun together. She helped me to be more serious about the future.” Traits that made our mate great become traits that grate In our search for a partner, each of us seems to be drawn to someone with complementary characteristics. The complementary characteristics in this case are Bob’s spontaneity and sense of humor and Mary’s stabilizing, future-focused view. In most situations, these characteristics begin to be problem areas in the relationship. Me: “What seems to be the struggle for the two of you?” Mary: “Bob is so irresponsible, he never takes anything seriously anymore, including me!” Bob: “It’s just that I am so tired. of being nagged all the time. She is no fun anymore!” Next, I ask them a series of connected questions. First, I ask them to remember when and if the relationship was working. I then help them to identify and verbalize what specific things each partner did or said that made the marriage work. After that, I ask what is called the “miracle question,” that is, “If a miracle happened tonight while you were sleeping, and tomorrow morning your relationship was like you want it to be, what would be different?” Here’s how Bob and Mary responded to the “miracle question.” Bob: “We would have fun again. Mary. would notice when I do take care of things. I wouldn’t feel so criticized.” Mary: “I could trust Bob again to do what he says he’ll do. I would feel like I was important to him.” The miracle question allows us to focus on goals for the relationship. I usually send people home with the suggestion they continue the conversation about two things: 1. What first attracted them to each other? 2. How would they like the relationship to be? The Dangers of Liposuction

By Charlene Nuble One Reality TV show, The Swan, thrives on makeovers. Often viewed as tantamount to having a new life, a lot of people get giddy with the thought of undergoing a makeover. Imagine being surrounded by aesthetics professionals brainstorming on how to make a deity out of an ugly duckling. Simply incredible, isn’t it? High on the mirage of the promise of exquisiteness lingers on mind. It’s not until the prick of the needle for shots of anesthesia brings you back to your senses. Elusive beauty is the major objective of each makeover. With this goal in mind, technology gave birth to a way of achieving what’s thought of as currently beautiful in the form of plastic surgery. Liposuction is considered the most popular procedure in the United States for several years running. But liposuction is quite new to the US. Liposuction was invented in Italy by two gynecologists, Dr. Gorgio Fischer and his son Dr. Gorgio Fischer, Jr. in 1974. Through small incisions, they were able to cut away fat tissues within the body. A rotating scalpel and suctions aided the procedure. Though not as comparable to today’s techniques, Drs. Fischer still deserve the credit for liposuction. Also known as lipoplasty and lipectomy, liposuction removes isolated pockets of fat from the body of those who are of relatively normal weight. These fat pockets or cellulites could either result from overeating alone or as an inherited trait that can’t be removed by dieting or exercise. The liposuction market comes from actors frantic with weight loss failure or simply just anyone who can afford a cellulite-free life. Anyone interested with liposuction should be informed that liposuction, as a surgical procedure, is not risk free. Before going gaga over losing those pesky flabs, better consider the following risks and complications that range from mild to potentially life-threatening. Skin Sag. Removal of fat tissues in one area of the body at once may result in loose skin, depending on skin’s elasticity. Stretch marks hint poor skin elasticity. So you might want to look all over your body for stretch marks first before getting nicked. Uneven curves. Take-two’s of this procedure often come from liposuction patients complaining about lumps and bumps from their original surgery. Liposuction Scars. Scars from liposuction are permanent. It is recommended that to prevent scar tissue from darkening, they should be kept out of the sun. Swelling. Depending on the recovery rate and are operated on, edema or swelling may last for weeks or even months after liposuction. Fluid pockets may form. They will need to be drained with a needle. Infection. Most patients that underwent surgical procedures are prone to infections. Antibiotics are prescribed to take after liposuction to prevent infection. Burns. Ultrasonic assisted liposuction utilizes a probe that may become very hot and can cause burns. Organ Damage from Injury. A probe under the skin through a small incision gives the possibility of puncturing an internal organ. Fluid Imbalance. During liposuction, large amounts of fluids are injected while some fluid is removed from the fat tissue. If not recognized fluid imbalance may result in pulmonary edema, or heart or kidney dysfunction. Pulmonary Embolism. Small pieces of fat may crumb off during liposuction and go to the lungs as pulmonary emboli. This risk is greatest within the first 3 days. Lidocaine Overdose. Too much lidocaine injected may result to toxicity. Liposuction Deaths. For every 100,000 liposuction performed, the risk of death is around 3. These liposuction dangers could be lowered in rate if an expert surgeon will perform the operation. The health of the patient would also influence the severity of the risks. Avoiding multiple procedures, general anesthesia, extracting large amount of fat could also contribute to a safer liposuction. Calla Lilies - Flowers for All Occasions

By William Berg The Calla Lilies are plants belonging to the Zantedeschia genus in the Araceae family. The genus contains seven plant species and they are all commonly referred to as Calla Lillies. Some of them have other common names as well. Zantedeschia aethiopica is also known as giant white arum lily and common arum lily. Zantedeschia albomaculata is sometimes sold as spotted arum lily, and Zantedeschia rehmannii is known as the pink arum lily. Zantedeschia elliottiana has a yellow shade and is therefore called yellow or golden arum lily. The other three species, Zantedeschia odorata, Zantedeschia jucunda and Zantedeschia pentlandii, are usually called just Calla Lilies. All the Calla Lilies originate from the African continent and are found wild between north Malawi and South Africa. They are often referred to as Arum Lilies. The Calla Lilies should not be confused with the flowers found in the genus named Calla that can be found in the Araceae family. This genus contains only one species, the Calla palustris, and unlike the Calla Lilies, this plant is native to cool regions in the temperate zoon and grows wild in Europe, North America and northern Asia. Another source of confusion regarding the Calla Lilies is that they actually do not belong to the family of the lilies. The Calla Lilies are all rhizomatous plants that can reach a height of 1-2.5 meters. The leaves will grow up to 45 centimetres. The name Calla is derived from the Greek language and means beautiful and this is a very appropriate name since the Calla Lilies are appreciated world wide for their exquisite beauty. In regions too cold for these flowers, they are cultivated indoors in homes and greenhouses. When you plant your Calla Lily, it is important that the soil is free from salt since Calla Lilies are very sensitive to salt. As long as you provide your Calla Lily with appropriate soil, plenty of water and lot of sunlight it is actually a though and durable plant that grows fast. Use a nutritious soil that drains easily. Place your Calla Lily in direct sunlight or light shade. Calla Lilies will do best when the temperatures are kept over 70 degrees F. An outdoor living Calla Lily will usually require no fertilization as long as it has been planted in rich soil. Indoor Calla Lilies, or outdoor Calla Lilies that are planted in pots, should be given liquid plant food regularly. You can either mix a very weak plant food solution and use every time you water your Calla Lily, or mix a little stronger but still quite mild solution and feed your plant every three weeks. When the blossoming period is over, you should allow the foliage of the plant to mature. Remove the flowers as the start to fade and wither. Slowly decrease the amount of water until the leaves have turned black. The tubers need at least 3 months to rest before they can bloom again. Since the Calla Lily grows fast it will eventually require repotting, and this is the ideal time to do so. Weight Loss Plateau Beaters - Smash Through Stubborn Fat Loss Plateaus

By Craig Ballantyne Is your fat loss progress slowing down? Are you stuck at the same weight, the same body fat, or the same pant size? Inevitably, everyone comes across a fat loss plateau. For some, it sticks around longer than others, but no matter how long it lasts, a fat loss plateau is always frustrating. According to Tom Venuto, one way to burst through plateaus is to increase the intensity of your training. After all, if you aren’t getting results, it might simply mean that your training is not stimulating your body to change (so you can’t expect last month’s program to work again this month - that’s why the best workouts always recommend changing your program every 4 weeks). In addition to changing my client’s fat loss programs regularly, we use another training rule every workout to make sure that they are continuing to get results and avoid the dreaded fat loss plateaus. The rule: Try to set a personal best in each workout. Now the personal best can be accomplished in any weight exercise, bodyweight exercise, or even interval/cardio exercise. For example, for many of my female clients, we are often trying to set new records in different kinds of push-ups and chin-ups. Just Monday I challenged one of my gals to get 15 chest-to-the-floor real pushups. I knew she had it in her. And she did. 15 perfect pushups, smashing her old record by two. It’s no surprise she has the best, leanest arms of almost any woman in the gym. Even in my own workout today, I smashed a personal record in the flat DB chest press, getting 6 reps with the 110 pound dumbbells (my training partner and I had to drive half-way across the city just to find dumbbells that heavy!). And even if you are having a lousy day, and don’t have much energy, you can still try to set a personal record in a low-intensity ab exercise like the plank or side plank. The great thing is that even with a normal 6-exercise strength and interval workout, there are at least 36 opportunities to set a new personal best. First, you could set it in any of the 6 exercises. Second, there are at least 3 ways to do every exercise. So you could have a record for regular push-ups, close-grip pushups, decline push-ups, close-grip decline push-ups, etc. Third, you can set a repetition record or a weight record. I.e. You could aim to get 2 more reps than last week in your db row exercise, or you could use a heavier dumbbell (all with good form, of course). So that’s at least 36 possible ways to set a record with your strength training. And that doesn’t even count the ways that you could set a personal best in your interval training (increasing the distance covered, the time of the interval, the speed of the interval, or the number of intervals). You can even set a new record by completing one of the bodyweight circuits faster than ever. All it has to be is one personal best per workout. Keep a little spreadsheet at home and record your exercises, all the variations, and your rep record and weight records, and the date on which you set the record. Come back to that every week to update it and motivate yourself for your next workout.
